Following Redmi 5, Xiaomi decided to upgrade the first generation of large Mi Max smartphones to MIUI 10. The bad news is that the old models do not support all shell functions.
Xiaomi Mi Max and the top version of Mi Max Prime received a new interface with a notification panel in the style of Android Pie and a vertical menu of recent applications, but there is no gesture control. Actually, for devices with classic screen proportions and separate touch buttons, the function was not even planned.
The firmware is based on Android 7.0 Nougat, which means that the first Max will remain without a two-window mode, which is in newer models with Oreo. There is a portrait mode, but so far it only works with the front camera. Software blur when shooting on the main module promise to add later.
The update over the air weighs only 307 megabytes. Its distribution occurs in waves, and some users will have to wait. Full firmware versions are available for download on the MIUI forum. As usual, it is recommended to make backup copies of important data before installation.
